BMW M6 production ceased

BMW has ceased production of the M6 coupe, convertible and the 5.0 litre V10 507bhp petrol engine on 7th September 2010, however, BMW hasn’t hinted at replacing these models. The V10 is being replaced by a more fuel efficient, lighter V8 engines.

"With the departure of these two fascinating and exceptional athletes and the already-discontinued fourth-generation BMW M5, production will now also cease for the unique V10 high-rev engine," BMW said in a statement.

BMW said they built 14,152 M6 models in total. It sold 9,087 M6 coupes, which launched in 2005, and 5,065 convertible models, which launched in 2006. The U.S, Germany and the UK were the biggest M6 markets.

The news about the end of the M6 comes as reports suggest that BMW will expand the BMW and Mini models to "fend off Volkswagen AG and Daimler AG." It said BMW plans to "widen" the 6 Series and Mini model lines as well as build an EV for town driving.
